The Los Angeles (L.A.) abrasion test (Figure 1) is a common test method used to indicate aggregate toughness and abrasion characteristics. Aggregate abrasion characteristics are important because the constituent aggregate in HMA must resist crushing, degradation and disintegration in order to produce a high quality HMA.
the aggregate crushing value (ACV) which gives a relative measure of the resistance of an aggregate to crushing under a gradually applied compressive load. The method is applicable to aggregates passing a 14.0 mm test sieve and retained on a 10.0 mm test sieve. For other size fractions, there is another recommended method.
Crushed Concrete Aggregate Concrete Construction. Jun 30 2011thus ccabined with the fine aggregate or dustfrom the crushing processhas a higher demand for water and cement resulting in the potiental forgreater shrinkage and lower strength because the crushing process produces concrete aggregate with jagged edges and dust the resulting concrete was considered too harsh for applications
Balance 2. Metal gauge 3. IS Sieves 4. Sample of aggregate (a quantity of aggregate shall be taken sufficient to provide a minimum no of 200 pieces od any fraction to be tested.) 8. Theory The elongation index on an aggregate is the percentage by weight of particles whose greatest dimension (length) is greater than 1.8 times their mean dimension.
Table 5.4 presents the statistical data of the LA abrasion mass loss, aggregate crushing value (ACV) and aggregate impact value (AIV) obtained from 307 RA samples. As expected, the LA abrasion results suggest that the resistance to fragmentation of RA, in descending order, is RCA, MRA and RMA. However, this trend is not clear in the case of AIV and ACV.
In bituminous mixtures, flaky aggregates make for a harsh mix and may also crack and break up during compacting by rolling. The flakiness of aggregate is determined by measuring the thickness of individual particles. Hence we offer thickness gauge and length gauge to check flakiness and elongation index of the aggregate respectively.

Aggregate Processing Equipment - Products - Sinoway. Aggregates processing equipment refers to the equipment for crushing, screening, washing, storage and transportation of sands and stone, mainly including vibrating feeder, jaw crusher, impact crusher, hammer crusher, hydraulic cone crusher, VSI crusher, gyratory crusher, vibrating screen, belt conveyor, sand washer, log …
Crushing resistance of coarse aggregate is the key to the stability and durability of the skeleton structure of permeable asphalt (PA) mixture. To determine the technical requirements of crushing value of coarse aggregate used in PA mixture, step-loading compression tests were conducted on the mixtures of PA-13 and a control asphalt mixture AC-13, respectively.
Application – Building / Road / Railway / Pavement / Dam No. of Aggregate Hopper – 3 / 4 / 5 Aggregate Hopper Capacity – 15 / 20 / 30 Cum Type of Aggregate Feeding Conveyor - Flat Belt / Trough Belt / Chevron Belt / Skip Type of Mixer – Twin Shaft / Twin Shaft Spiral
Structural Uses of Aggregate Base. When doing structural foundations or base course under concrete slabs and asphalt pavement roadways, Aggregate Base is in use. It can be placed by attentive spreading then compacting. The sub-base if formed by dust and small chipped aggregate layers, typically Crushed Fines. The crushed aggregate base lays on ...
Procedure. Step 1 – First, the aggregate sample sieve through 12.5mm sieve and collect it which is retained in 10 mm sieve. Step 2 – Now, the sample should be dried through the oven up to 4 hours at 100 deg to 110 deg. Step 3 – Then, the aggregate sample should be filled in the metal cup by 3 layers. Each layer should be tamped 25 times by the tamping rod.
This test is very similar to Aggregate Crushing Test in which a standard force 400kN is applied and fines material expressed as a percentage of the original mass is the aggregate crushing value. Granular sub-base is subjected to repeated loadings from truck types. The stress level at the contact points of aggregate particles is quite high.
RCA was collected from a crushing plant which is 35 km areaway from the batching plant. All the aggregates were pre-processed in terms of grading size. Two different size grades were present: 4.75–9.5 mm and 9.5–19 mm. The reference aggregate was the natural aggregate which has the similar size grade as hard rock.
ii.FINE AGGREGATE & COARSE AGGREGATE (Sand & Stone Chips): Aggregate abrasion value, crushing value, impact value, grading & fineness modulus, flaking index, elongation index, specific gravity, bulk density, water absorption, soundness, aggregate alkali, reactivity, deleterious material, bulking of sand and silt content in fine aggregate.
The aggregates crushing value test should be performed as per IS code 2386 Part IV. First, fill the sample aggregate with one-third of the cylindrical measure in three layers. Each layer should be tamped 25times freely. After filling the sample aggregate, weigh and record it as W1. Now fill the aggregate in the mould along with the plunger on top.
Aggregate crushing value test on coarse aggregates gives a relative measure of the resistance of an aggregate crushing under gradually applied compressive load. Coarse aggregate crushing value is the percentage by weight of the crushed material obtained when test aggregates are subjected to a specified load under standardized conditions.
Experiment No. 4: Determination of the aggregate impact value of different coarse aggregate samples. (BS 812) Scope & significance: Aggregate Impact Value The aggregate impact value gives a relative measure of the toughness or the resistance of aggregate sudden shock or impact is not proportional to the resistance to a slowly applied compressive load.
The crushed aggregate sample which is finer than 2.36 mm is separated and expressed as a percentage of the original weight taken in the mould. The percentage of weight passed through the 2.36m IS sieve is known as Aggregate crushing value.. In situations, when the aggregate value 30 or higher the result may be a mistake and in such cases, the "ten percent fines value" should be determined ...
Concept and significance of the Aggregate crushing value test. The ' aggregate crushing value test ` gives a relative measure of the resistance of an aggregate to crushing under a gradually applied compressive load. Aggregate crushing value is defined as the percentage by weight of the crushed (or finer) material obtained when the test aggregates are subjected to a specified load …
